Figure Studies

Life drawing helps you see more clearly…and to be specific....Blind Contour drawing means you don't miss anything because you never take your eyes off the model to look at the paper while drawing....and working with media that doesn't let you erase, forces accuracy on your part.

As an abstract painter, I do these drawings for the discipline of that process.

These drawings are not for sale.

Perspectives

“Life is about perspective and how you look at something… ultimately, you have to zoom out.”

— Thought Leader

A light-hearted reminder that things aren't always as they appear. These aerial sightings are unexpected, serendipitous, and challenge our usual viewpoints.

THE PROCESS

Bringing an idea to life through art begins long before the first stroke is made.

Inspiration can strike in the smallest of moments—a shadow dancing across a wall, the texture of weathered stone, or the quiet stillness of an early morning.

MEET THE ARTIST

Don Wass

My paintings are primarily an exploration of how color, texture, and composition work together in a shallow space. Simple shapes against a background of loose form and color, and paint that fluctuates between ragged-edged and raw, to hard-edged and refined continue to challenge me.

For most of my painting career I have worked in a series of paintings that push me to explore a set of ideas until I'm not learning anything new, I'm bored, I'm not at least a little surprised by what I see happening in the paintings, or I'm afraid to go any further. It takes a number of paintings to experiment with all the possibilities of a given set of ideas. Each of these paintings are created by applying many layers of acrylic on heavy Arches paper.

When I was a little boy, I loved reading comic books and would try to understand the story just by looking at the pictures—I actually hated reading the text. Looking back, I wish someone had realized and explained to me that I was a visual learner. It would have made school a lot easier to navigate.

“My Artistic practice is a continuous chase for that elusive feeling when everything finally comes together just right"

“If you could say it in words there would be no reason to paint. Edward Hopper

“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls"

Pablo Piasso
